Hello once again! This week, I did manage to connect with the people at Desert Stages, and I spent a few days there this week. It was their tech week- the last week of preparation before the show, at least for this production- so there wasn't that much for me to do the first two days, but I did get to know the theater and the show some, so that was nice!
I don't have all that much to say, overall. The theater doesn't really have a need for someone who works with the kind of makeup that interests me, and while I figured as much, this means I will need to do any makeup work I do at home. I didn't get a chance to do that this week, but I will try to be better in the future. I'll do my best to get up a few makeup tests in the next week, now that my schedule is a little more settled than before.
One thing I can talk about is the theater itself, now that I've spent some time there. It's a small place, but they still have two separate stages, and two shows can run at once. they did today, kept apart only by the hall between them and white noise played on the speakers in the lobby. Apparently, the white noise dampened the sound of each show to the other, and though I couldn't tell if it managed to keep the sounds of Back To the 80s out of the other room, I know I couldn't hear the other play, when I walked by. That may have just been because of how loud the musical was compared to the play, though, with all its pop songs played over the theater's speakers.
Most of my job has been doing whatever other people don't have time to, but I have had the chance to watch how some things are done. This past week's Friday, I got to sit in the tech booth above the stage where the light and sound controls are and watch how those were controlled as the play went on below.
Apologies again for the lack of content this week. I'll do my best to make up for it with something more related to makeup within the coming week. Hopefully, there will be pictures to come.

ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteWhen you practice, do you usually do it on yourself looking at a mirror or on a friend/parent/sibling? Excited to see your future work!
ReplyDeleteIt's usually on myself in a mirror, if I'm trying to figure something out. Thanks!
DeleteSounds like fun to see the behind the scenes a bit. Do you have interest in theater overall or are your interests more specific to the makeup aspect?
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see what's behind the scenes, at least. I'm more interested in makeup, but it's still been cool to see.
DeleteI think it is great that you are able to gain exposure to a field outside of your interests! I imagine most professional special effects makeup artists have spent many hours working for a theater and perfecting their craft. Is the stage makeup that is used in the play similar to the makeup that you use for your special effects?
ReplyDeleteThe makeup used in the play doesn't involve any special effects, so no, it's not. For the play, they only need things like eyeliner and blush and lipstick.
DeleteHaha I like the title of your post! I hope you find more to do at the theater next week.
